To remove the battery from a VX5500 follow these steps:
1. Turn off the phone by holding down the "PWR" (or "END") button
2. Flip the phone over so that you are looking at the back
3. There will be an arrow indented into a plastic piece. Slide the plastic in the direction the arrow points
4. Pull off the plastic, this is the battery cover, after this you should see the battery.
5. Orient the phone so that the text on the battery is right side up. There will be an indent on the lower left side of the battery.
6. Stick you thumbnail between this indent and the battery and pry it out, it shouldn't take much force and it should just pop out. If it does, you are probably prying in the wrong place.
To replace the battery follow these steps:
1. Slide the battery in contacts first, it should pop right in.
2. Put the cover back on so that it lies flat.
3. Push it in the opposite direction of the arrow indented in it.
4. Turn the phone on by holding down the "PWR" (or "END") button

It takes 3 to 4 hours to charge, if the battery meter does not show fully charge by then-maybe it is time to replace battery. Hope this helps.
