I own a 2001 Ford Expedition EB with Mach sound system. I am addressing how to take out the rear amp that powers the subwoofer. I discovered the amplifier was bad when my 25 amp audio fuse kept blowing and learned via another message board that my bad amplifier was shorting it out. As a temporary fix, I removed the cup holder by the back passenger vent window with a flathead screwdriver and disconnected the power to the amplifier which temporarily solved the problem. To remove the amp completely, you also need to remove the snap in cover over the subwoofer (rear passenger side). This gives you access to two of the screws holding the amplifier in. You are going to need a small torque wrench with a 9/32 inch bit to remove them. The screw(s) on the other side will be a bit trickier to remove. Removing the screw on the left will require reaching through the opening left by the cup holder and removing them with the torque wrench. The shorter the torque wrench the better as it will give you more room to maneuver. Once the screws are removed the amplifier can be taken out by gently flexing back the rear panel and squeezing it through the subwoofer opening. The model # of the amp is located on the sticker on the bottom of the amp. I was able to find a brand new replacement amp on eBay for $85 including shipping. Just search "expedition amplifier". Hope this helps.
Take it to a licensed mechanic.
