I just removed the door panel off my 1999 dodge RAM last night and found that there were about 10 plastic pins holding the door on, along with 2 screws in the handle cups and one at the top of the panel near the mirrors. I don't know how it compares to the Dakota, but I found that the panel needs a strong yank straight out from the door. I laterfound that it works a little better and is more gentle to the fragile pins if I simply took a flat crow bar and levered them apart individually.
