Actually, I don't think we live in the same country because you said "lad," and I'm from the States. So, I don't know if it would be weird for you to text this (my cousin isn't from the states and never talks like me), but I think you should say, "Hey what's up? This is (your name)" Unless he knows your number and that it's you texting him. If he already knows it's you, just say "Hey, what's up?" He'll most likely say something like, "Not much. I doing (whatever he's doing)." He'll probably ask you something, thus beginning your conversation! Yay! That's so exciting! I know exactly how you feel!
