Take your dog to the vet. These glads secrete poisons and a rupture is not good! Infection can set in and things will get worse from there.
Anal glands do not secrete poisons - they are for scent marking. If they rupture it is because they are already infected and the abcess is not able to empty - thus they rupture to the outside on either one or both sides of the anus. It is a situation which requires veterinary attention. The glands will need to be flushed, may have a drain placed and the animal will be placed on antibiotics. Nursing care will be required throughout recovery. If chronic/frequent in nature, removal of the anal glands after healing may be recomended. It is not without risk of complication though.

There was a perfectly round hole about the size of a pencil thickness at 8 o'clock (from the rectal opening), and it was bleeding. She had been red in this area over the past couple of days, and even though I checked this area, I didn't see there was an issue - other than the reddening of the area. Because she is a long-haired dog, I thought the area simply needed to be cleaned after her bowel movement. I feel horrible that I didn't see it before it happened. My vet said that it happens more often than people think. Unfortunately, I only thought the reddening was due to irritation from her stool.

To express the gland apply gentle pressure to both sides of the anus (as though you are popping a pimple) I know this sounds terrible, and it is. Gloves are a good idea, and make sure you do not get any of the gland build up on you or anything else, it smells much stronger than regular poo and the odor can be really hard to get rid of. Most dogs can do this theselves (that's usually why they drag their rear on the ground) but a vet or a groomer, during a thorough grooming session, can do this for you

The majority of the time a dog drags it's butt across the capet is that is has worms. I do not reccoment squeezing your dog's anal glands until your dog proves he needs help with it. You will know when your dog has a problem with his anal glands because they will swell. If you do it once for your dog it will lose it's ability to do it on it's own. I do not own that type of dog but I do know what you are smelling. Sometimes when a dog gets scared they may release a substance from their anal glands. A dogs anal glands hold toxins, every time a dog poops a bit of that liquid comes out. When dogs get a big scare they may release some anal gland liquid. It smells awful and looks brown and sometimes chunky. By the way, you should make sure that your vet always releases your dogs anal glands each time they go to the vet. If not the glands can harden like stones and, unless surgically removed they will kill the dog. So that is what you are smelling!
