Depends on the Filter There are Three problems that you can come across with cartridge filters (1) calcium build up in the filter element leading increased pressure and to a reduction in the amount of water getting through the filter and having to clean it too often. This can usually be cleaned out by soaking the whole thing in acid which dissolves the calcium. seek advice from your pool shop or service person before you do this (2) wear and tear the filter element has holes in it or it is torn leading to reduced presure allowing larger impurity's through and back into the pool. (3) the seals that help hold the filter in place are broken or out of position.
