I myself am having trouble with a 1995 Buick Park Ave Ultra's traction control. Mine seems to keep the traction control off light on at all times. I can push the button and it stays on. I believe in your case, if you just want to know if the sensor is bad, and it really isn't tore up, the answer is find a way to have one tire spinning while having traction to the other tire. Sounds pretty complicated. Well, one way to check is to pull off on the side of the road, and let your passenger tire get in the grass a bit. Give it some throttle and see if the drivers side compensates for the tire in the grass. Try this with the button being depressed in both modes. Should help you out. I may have misunderstood what you meant. Really depends on what the car is doing. Weather it is throwing up a warning light, or if you just don't think it is working. Anyways hope this helps.
A problem with the emissions will sometimes shut off the traction control, thus illuminating the light.
The oil sending unit for a 1998 Buick Ultra is located on the front of the engine, below the power steering unit. Remove the plug from the sensor, and unscrew it from the block to remove and replace it.

Can anyone tell me why my new battery goes dead in my 1997 Buick Ultra Park Ave?
broken fuel gauage sensor or possibly a broken fuel pump indicator
perhaps the problem is not the sensor but the wiring. the insulation may be worn and is grounding the conection/circuit giving you the false reading.(light)
