I had a 1987 Pontiac Grand Am I found out that the injector needed to be replaced when the car would start for only a few seconds and the die out abruptly. The injector would only spray enough fuel into the throttle body in order to start it then would stop, the injector was located in the middle and above the throttle body making for an easy repair.
sending unit makes loud humming noise from fuel tank
You completely waste the injector cleaner. It has to flow through the ports which supply fuel to the engine to do its job. That's why the directions tell you to put it into the gas tank in a certain ratio to gas. It mixes with the fuel in the tank, flows through the system and out of the injector ports.
plug in noid light start car if it flashes its getting power and ground
Well...I am no mechanic but I can tell you I am going through a similar issue with my 1986 Chrysler Lebaron. My mechanic replaced the fuel pump which was heavily corroded, then another mechanic friend replaced the fuel injector and the regulator along with the spark plugs but still no fire and today he checked out the fuel injector connector and noticed the wiring on one side of this part is not in perfect condition which could possibly be causing this car from not fully igniting and staying powered. So far, he is scouting junk yards to locate this part. Hope this info helps.
Double check your coil connection. If it checks there is a test port on the fuel injector rail. You can tell if the fuel pump is operating. If you have the gauge you can make sure the pressure is correct. But I would double check electrical first.
Fuel tank emptyBattery deadBattery terminal loose or corrodedLeaking fuel injector(s),faulty fuel pump, pressure regulator etcFuel not reaching fuel railIgnition components damp or damagedThe list goes on but this is the most common oneshow do you tell which one, leaky fuel injector? pressure regulator?
It gets very hard to steer
I want to clarify if you are asking if you can blow air through a fuel injector? If this is your question, I am not really sure what you are going to gain by trying to do this. A fuel injector has a tiny valve inside that opens with an electrical pulse from the PCM. Even if you could open that valve, the passages inside the injector are the size of a pinprick. There is nothing to be gained in trying to blow air through an injector. You will not even be able to tell how much air is going through the injector, and how much air is going around the injector as you are doing this. If the injector will not clean up with injector cleaners, then it will require replacement.
I believe the fuel injector timing is set by the car's computer which take information from various parts operating in the engine to tell the injector when to operate. Everything must be in spec. to get the injector's timing right. It's a team effort of the components to keep efficiency and to function with regards to specified emmissions.
if you have owned the car for a long time chances are the filter will need changing. the fuel pump should buzz when the ignition is turned on so if it does its a good sign it is ok. but there are companys out there that can check the fuel pressure to see if its ok. Adam www.aeautomotive.co.UK
No oil pressure
there is a certain tool that will detect a small vibration. check each injector with this. no detection will determine the faulty injector IT WILL TELL YOU. no it wont tell you. take a long screw driver, and put the metal end on the top of the injector with the engine running. if you hear a small clicking noise, then it is working properly. make sure you check all 4 injectors
