Ummmm, it doesn't work right? Check the Transmission Fluid for proper level, smell and color. Fluid should be bright red, not brown and smell burnt.
We really need a whole lot of information here to answer this. What kind of vehicle? What is your transmission doing? A bad governor can make you think the thing is a total loss. It cost about $15.00 to fix on my GM. A vacuum hose, dirty filter, etc can all make it seem like you have a major problem. Now, if it slips in every gear, won't upshift or downshift, won't move in one direction or the other (or at all) you probably need serious help! Some of the imports have seriously sophisticated transmissions and only qualified techs can fix them.
You can tell if the transmission, in your 1998 Chevy Malibu, is going bad. If there is a whining or clunking noise. The transmission might cause your engine to install when you are stopped with your foot on the brake.
Not shifting correctly, fluid smells burnt, or has a foul odor.
Bad fuel pump will cause the engine to stall or not start at all. A bad automatic transmission will cause the vehicle to jerk and not run smoothly.
It might not be going bad but, whens the last time you change the trany.filter start with the cheep fix frist or some no slip oil
the oil is darkit smells burnt
Could be low fluid,a bad sensor or transmission going bad.
cuz their be in error massage
Your transmission could be going bad
A transmission is going bad when you begin to notice the vehicle driving or shifting unusually. A diagnosis by a competent technician would be recommended as some symptoms that feel like transmission concerns may actually be engine related.
Your motor oil going bad would cause that. That is in the crankcase, not the transmission.
You might start to notice the transmission going bad when it DOESN'T CHANGE GEARS!!!! That's usually a good sign. Or it may make a GRINDING sound.
transmission is going out and bad
