It is essential that you realize the age of that child and that you don't hurt their feelings. You could either let them help you to some degree or, if it's something they can't help you with then tell them you are very busy and, if they are your own children tell them that you will do something else with them later. Never get upset and tell them to 'Go away .. you're bothering me!' Children are curious, adventuresome and they are learning all the time and whether you are the parent, relative or friend you are a mentor. They love to help out so you could give them something to do and tell them it's an adult job and you really need the help or, if they are just pestering you then be firm and tell them that you can do something special later, but right now you are busy. Be sure to keep your promise!
