A neutered male will no longer have testicles. Bear in mind if your cat has just been neutered the testicles still may be visible. It takes around 6 weeks for the hormones to calm down, so the testicles will shrink over this period. A male cat has a larger gap between the anus and penis, whereas a female cat's vulva is situated closer to the anus.

Even if a cat is fixed it still can be reasonably easy to determine its gender. A neutered male cat will not have visible testicles, but there will be a noticeable space between its anus and penis. A spayed female cat looks exactly the same as an intact female as the reproductive organs that are removed when it is spayed are inside the body. A spayed female will still have a genital opening (vulva) which is often a tear-drop shape located right below the anus.

if you have a kitten then its almost impossible to tell before about 2/3 weeks. but if your kitten is older or a fully grown cat then its easier. when you lift up the tail a female will have kind of an upside down exclamation mark (!), the dot being her bumhole. a male will have the upside down exclamation mark but in between there will be a colon (:) which are the testicles and appear to be lumps.

A male cat will no longer have testicles. He may still retain the furry pouch (called the scrotum) where the testicles once were, but it will be empty and much reduced in size compared to an intact male cat.

What is the difference between a male and female cat?

The best way to tell what gender a cat is, it by looking underneath the base of its tail. A male cat that has not been neutered will have two furry testicles right below the anus, and a penis right below the testicles. A neutered male cat will not have visible testicles, but there will be a noticeable space between its anus and penis. Spayed and intact female cats alike will have a genital opening (vulva) which is a tear-drop shape located right below the anus.

What can you do to get rid of male cat's anal odor?

Male cats have anal glands that can get clogged, especially if the cat has not been neutered. A Vet can "express" the clog, which will make the cat less odoriferous (smelly). However, you should get the cat neutered, because the smell will lessen and likely not occur again. It can reoccur in an unfixed male cat.Note: Same is true for male dogs.
