If you look at your VIN the 8th " character " of the VIN indicates which
engine you have
" E " is the 4.0 liter SOHC , V6 engine
" X " is the 4.0 liter , OHV / pushrod style V6 engine
" P " is the 5.0 liter V8 engine
An obdII code reader will tell you why the light is on and might tell you what is wrong

You can tell the engine is blown when the Ford Service department manager refuses to admit there is anything wrong with your engine and flat out refuses to supply paid for warranty covered repairs!
