If you feel like it's someone's business, you can just say, "Hey, I started my period."

That is so right and you should like say "I hope you don't mind me asking but have you started your period yet?" and then say me too! i know it is fun to tell people about it lol

Be honest and truthful and hopefully they will do the same. And have no shame and let others know they shouldn't either.

Maybe having an interesting topic to bring up will help facilitate discussion. Such topics could include "Have you heard of menstrual cups? Or Menstrual pads?" or "What do you think happens to all the pads and tampons in the world?"

Even if your first attempts at talking about periods seem awkward keep trying! Having a friend to discuss these issues with can be often relieving and very rewarding.

You don't hide that you have your period from your friends. Being a woman is nothing to be ashamed of, thus normal healthy functions of a woman's body is nothing to be ashamed of either, thus there is no reason to hide menstruation from your friends. Attempting to hide menstruation from your friends just makes your life more difficult.

I'm not sure why you would want or need to talk to her about her period, that's her business and although there's nothing wrong with talking openly about menstruation you should still respect people's privacy. Unless you have a good reason for bringing up the subject, don't.

You can simply say 'I'm on my period', it's that simple. Your period isn't something shameful or embarrassing, so just say it.

If a grandmother gets her first period at age 13 and her daughter gets her first period at age 13 than what are the odds that her daughter gets her first period at age 13?

Quite likely but then again unlikely because everyone grows at their own pace, my mother and grandmother got their periods at 13 but I got mine at 12. Sometimes the people around you including your friends can start your period... for example my friend got her period before I got mine and a few weeks later I started and a day after I started another one of my friends started... strange, huh>? Well I most defiantly hope I helped you, good luck and don't be afraid to tell your parents! (Specifically your mother) Good luck!
