It sounds rough, but sometimes you just have to take your lumps. If you knew it was going to be a problem, but it got to the point you were making an F, there were probably a lot of stop points in between that you could have got the situation under control.
I would say the best thing you can do is go to her BEFORE report cards come out. Very honestly tell her what happened. Don't try to make up cover stories or lame excuses. Just flat out tell her you messed up. I know a lot of cover stories sound logical and fool-proof at 13, but when you hear them as an adult, they usually just sound like lame excuses. If you are having a hard time, it is totally fine to tell her that. Let her know you think you might need extra help, if you do.
She might still ground you and take your trip away, because you did not meet the expectations set for you. However, she will likely respect the fact that you came to her and just told the truth. She might be mad for a while, but the fact that you were honest and trustworthy will stay in the back of her mind. It may not exactly help you this time, but when other situations come up in the future, it very well might be to your advantage. If your trust is ever called into doubt, she will have that to go by.
Do better next time. If you see you are heading for a low grade, address the situation way before it gets to an F. Go talk to your teacher. Tell them you don't expect them to change your grade, but you would like to be more responsible. Ask them what they recommend to help you do better next time. It will help the teacher to see you are trying to take things more seriously, and they may be more willing to help you out.
