Follow the AOAC method #985.35, Dry ashing the 50 mL of milk in a china dish at 525 oC after evaporation to dryness.

The white ash is dissolved in 1M nitric acid and filtered. Then the filtrate is diluted to a fixed volume (ca 50 mL)and analyzed at flame photometer against the freshly prepared Ca standards (CaCO3 dissolved in little HCl and then diluted to fixed volume).
