You can test your 1997 Oldsmobile 2.4 liter engine oil pressure sending unit with a diagnostic tester. The diagnostic tester is the most reliable way to make sure your sending unit is working properly.

The oil pressure sending unit is located up on the head near the pulley for the power steering pump. It is on the back side of the head. I had to replace mine. It is an easy job.
In the intake underneath the throttle body.
You don't, as it has no belt. It has a chain that should last the lifetime of the engine.

Leak in heater core.
The unit is at the front of the engine near the oil filler neck. Its a little cylinder with an electrical connection at one end and a pipe into the engine at the other.
The same was happening with my 93 achieva s I changed the oil sending unit... with the stalling ie.. shutters then kills... then wont go back into gear till cools off ...changes the tranny oil and filter and it stopped for a while then when it started doing it again when it would shutter I would punch the gas and seen to correct what it was doing ,,,the achieva
