In most cases your alternator will have two bolts, one on top and one on botom, loosen them both just a bit. The top one will need to be a bit loose than the bottom.
Then you will notice that the bracket for the top bolt has a slot in it that the bolt goes through, grab the top of the alternator and pull it slowly away from the engine so the bolt slides further in the slot and the belt becomes tighter, then tighten the top bolt, and then the bottom one.
there, you are done. Just make sure the belt is not too awfully tight, just so if you push down on the belt it moves a bit or sags with the pressure.
