Yes, of course! It's a great way to bond with an animal.

* Once a month, or when dirty, bathe the dog with lukewarm water and a dog shampoo. Use conditioner if you like, or if the coat is tangled. Be sure to wash thoroughly, specially the neck, behind the ears, in the "armpits," in the "groin," and don't forget the wash the genital and anal region gently but thoroughly.

* Some dogs may need their anal glands expressed. (Dogs eating a healthy diet and that are not overweight usually do not need this.) Your vet can instruct you on how to know when this would be necessary and how to do it.

* Brush the dog's coat once every week--brush it as long as you can until your arm cannot brush any more. Use the weekly brushing a an opportunity to check the dogs ears, behind the ears, his or her "armpits" and groin and under the tail for any parasites, and to generally assess his or her skin for injuries, infections, or other issues that may need the attention of a vet.

* Cut your dogs nails about twice a month, avoiding the quick.

* Clean out the dog's outer ear and just inside the ear canal (not too deep) with a clean, dry cotton towel or cotton ball at least once a week. If the ears smell yeasty or if the dog's ears are obviously bothering him or her, use a gentle dog ear cleaner from the pet store.

* Check the pads of the paws for cuts, tears, etc., and moisturize them with a dog lotion about once a week--more during summer or if the dog walks a lot on pavement or rocky surfaces. If there are any serious tears or cuts, see a vet.

* Dogs can't lick under their chins, so it can help prevent infections if you wipe off the flues and chin after eating or digging, etc.

* Don't forget the clean the dog's bedding at least once a month or when dirty.

* Remember to administer the dog's flea and heartworm medicines as prescribed (see your vet).

* It sounds ridiculous, but you can really keep a dog healthy by brush his or her teeth with dog toothpaste and a finger brush (both for sale at the pet store) a couple of times a week. Otherwise, bacteria and other things can slowly erode the dog's oral health--and slowly his or her overall health as well.

Okay, first off a golden retriever is no different from every other dog. When training, the most important thing to remember is, no dogs are stupid. Though they will all learn at different rates they all will also eventually get it in the end. The next thing to remember is that you don't train by enforcing punishment! You need to train using reward as a motive and instead of focusing on what they do wrong, focus on what they do right.

You must find something that will motivate your dog. Food is the best option. Now use it as a motive, a reward. If your problem is that your dog is too hyper and naughty consider giving it more exercise and stimulation! If you need to show it tricks use the food and websearch more ideas.

Sorry man, gotta correct you here:

"...a golden retriever is no different from every other dog..."

Goldies require a much softer touch than most of the working breeds. You are right though, they are definitely motivated by food. Careful though, cause goldies will put on weight like Roseanne at a buffet.

+1 on the positive reinforcement as well.

Once again: use a soft touch with goldies.

Remember, your goldie WANTS to please you.

To train him well, you need to learn how to show him how to do that in a way he understands. Keep it simple.

if you want a full haircut, I use the buzzcut thing on my dog. It's not that pretty but we don't care. If it's just a few patches, scissors always work.

What if my golden retriever doesn't have web feet?

MOST LIKELY, your golden retriever is NOT a purebred golden retriever, then. because, all golden retrievers (100% purebred golden-retriever, with no other breed in them) have webbed feet, they are instinctively and historically-speaking SWIMMERS and hunters... SO, if you want, you can check with the person or organization from whom you obtained the dog, and inquire into the background of the dog (ie. purebred golden retriever? are there other breeds mixed in with golden retriever in my dog?, etc)
