it is hard to do that because your dog is trying to protect you and your home from any harm, just try diffrent things like if he continues on, tell him/her that she/he is bad that's all i can say

I'm not sure how to get the dog to stop barking at people they see. I still have that problem with my German shepherd. I was successful in training him to not jump or bark when someone comes to the door. Keep in mind that this method worked for my dog, it may not work for yours. When someone knocks at your door and your dog barks, take him on a leash into another room where they cannot see the person come through the door. Make them sit and stay and turn your back. Dont even look at the dog until they are calm. Once they are calm, take them into the room with the guest. If they continue to bark and jump, repeat the process. Once the dog does not jump or bark, reward him. This takes patience and consistency or the dog will not learn. This causes the dog to associate barking with something bad (being taken away from the attention) and not barking with something good (getting a treat). If this is done consistently your dog will stop barking altogether. This teaches the dog that you are the one who decides who comes in the house and not them.

My contribution

Make a high-pitched noise such as a squeal, or a 'bah bah bah bah', in a high-range octave (Falsetto if you're a man)...when the dog barks. Keep in mind I said high pitched, not high volume. Your dog is not deaf and there's no need to be loud. This will distract them, and in time, they will learn that in order to have the door answered, they need to be quiet, or they will only get a squeal or a bah bah bah in reply...not an open door. Tell your friends, family, and neighbors what your plans are with your dog, so they can be prepared to wait on your front porch while you train your dog, and eventually let them in. DO NOT open the door until your dog has been quiet for at least 10 seconds. They will grow to understand that silence means they get to greet whoever is on the other side of the door. If you're worried that this may make them 'tame' to violent strangers...it won't. The ancestry of dogs, is the wolf. They naturally protect and defend the hand that feeds them. If something happens to you, or a stranger invades your home uninvited, 90% of dogs will do whatever is in their power to make sure you're safe. There's no need to train a dog to protect you if you've loved it, nurtured it, and cared for it to the best of your ability during its life.

The same can be applied when a dog sees a person. Make that squeal, high-pitched noise. If the dog is on a leash, stop walking your dog and stand completely still so your dog can only walk within about 5 feet of you. Don't scream and yell for them to 'hush up'. Contrary to popular belief, dogs have a very keen sense of hearing, and you should never resort to yelling; they're not deaf. Remember, squeal, or "bah bah bah" like a Trumpet. This *will* distract them. Then, they will become aware that they're not getting anywhere by barking..and if they want to continue their walk, they should be quiet. Lastly, if they are not on a leash, and are barking at someone in your household...the same still applies. A high-pitched trumpet sounding 'bah bah bah'...and repeat until the dog is silent. Make SURE you said "VERY GOOD GIRL (or boy)!!" extremely excitedly when they are quiet, so they know they have pleased you by doing so.

I have got a Maltese and mine does not bark a lot. If yours keeps barking next time just tell it to stop and make sure you speak loudly to grab the dogs attention. Give it a treat each time it stops and it will eventually stop barking at people.

Hey man, Thanks for reply. As you know, my Maltese barks when people walk passed the house, most of the day, I am inside the house, but I really hate walking all the way downstairs, just to say "Shosh!" to her, but it works... Is there anything that is automatic? if yes, is it cheap?? Thanks!

Hi, I seen an episode of Ceasar Milan a couple weeks ago and the people on the show were having very similar problems. He actually suggested a course that I have heard of before that he says you can purchase online. I found out where it was and the link is below for you. let your puppy be surrounded with alot of people....................so that way he can know that they won't do any harm to them :)

Get rid of the dog, do not invite anyone to your house, or simply train it by giving it a small punishment (like being put in a kennel or sprayed with a water bottle) whenever it barks.
