The best way to go vegan is to take it slowly. Many foods have addictive qualities; if you eliminate everything at once, it is much more difficult to kick the cravings. For a milk replacement I recommend rice, hemp or some kind of nut milk (almond, hazelnut). There are vegan alternatives to pretty well everything you could want to eat. Veganrella is my favorite type of cheese alternative -- it is rice based. You have to be sure to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, of course. Dark green vegetables are the highest in nutrients, and they will give you the iron you need, as well as your calcium.

I recommend looking up super foods -- such as broccoli sprouts and blueberries -- that are jam-packed with nutrients. Rice and some type of legume will give you a full protein; in fact, quinoa is my favorite grain because it is a full protein in itself. You can get B12 from nutritional yeast, which you sprinkle on food or in soups. Many milk alternatives are fortified with B12 as well. When baking, you can use flax seed or egg replacer to replace the egg. Organic raw cane sugar is a good sugar to use -- many types of sugar are not vegan because they use animal bone in the processing. I also recommend looking into organic, locally made/grown and fair trade items; they go right along with the "not hurting the world" thing.
