Put the converter back on. Its a federal crime to remove it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, no, no... you don't have to put it back on. They make a bypass for it that you can buy off of eBay and if you really just want the "super-easy-fix", take out the bulb.
It will cause the check engine light to come on with no benefits.
It would be plain stupid to remove the converter. The converter is designed into the engine controls of the vehicle. Removing it wouldn't really increase power because they have very little backpressure. If you want to remove it because its plugged or bad then you could do so but the check engine light would come on and it would never pass a smog test. It won't physically hurt the engine to remove it. Removing the converter is against the law. I would have an aftermarket converter welded in to replace your old one if its bad.
One, it is illegal to remove a catalytic converter. Two, if the vehicle is computer controlled, removing the cat will cause a check engine light and a limp in condition which will reduce power.
Removing a catalytic converter will cause a check engine light, lower power on a computer controlled vehicle, and is highly illegal.
There is no reason to do this. Modern catalytic converters do not restrict your exhaust flow. All you will gain by breaking it out is a check engine light coming on that will never go away. If your check engine light is already on for a catalytic converter problem removing the honeycomb will not fix it.
Removing the catalytic converter is illegal. It will also not improve fuel mileage. The engine will not run properly with the converter removed and the check engine light will not go off and cannot be turned off as it will just come back on. The ECU will try to adjust the fuel/air mixture to compensate for the missing converter which will hurt economy not help it. The fine is $2,500 if you are caught. Install a converter back on your car ASAP.
A failed catalytic converter is one of hundreds of parts that can cause the check engine light to be on.

You will have to install a catalytic converter to get the light to go off.
You don't. The check engine light will come on if you tamper with the converter, you will not be able to turn it off. The engine will also suffer from lower fuel economy and performance. I agree, with the above post. It is also illegal to do this. Why would you want to do this in the first place unless your converter was clogged, which is highly unlikely on a 2002 vehicle? Leave it alone, there is no positives in removing it and plenty of negatives.
1. illegal 2. will cause check engine light to stay on. 3. The engine computer will try to compensate for false oxygen sensor reading due to the missing catalytic converter, This will causes a loss of power, lower fuel economy, and poor driveability.
A flashing check engine light means that you have a problem with your engine that may cause harm to the catalytic converter.
