With the car key on ACC, put your odometer on the mileage setting (not 'trip') then turn the key off - then, while holding down the button that switches from odo and trip, turn the key back on to ACC - you will notice the maintenance light blink and then go out. The vehicle computer automatically resets the mileage interval until it goes on again.
On my 2008 Highlander, I started the engine and set the odometer to trip A. Shut off engine and restart while holding down the odometer button.

How to Reset Maintenance Warning Light on a 2008 Toyota 4Runner
1. Set your ODO to Trip A 2. Turn off ignition 3. Hold ODO button 4. Turn on ignition 5. Hold ODO button until Maintenance Required light stops flashing
First, reset both trip meters (A and B). With the Accessories on, depress the odometer button while on trip A and Press the ON/OFF button to turn off the Accessories. While pressing the odometer button Press the ON/OFF button twice to turn the Accessories on and you will see in the display screen bars disappearing and the maintenance reminder message resetting.
On the 08 highlander make sure that your ODO display is on trip A then turn off your key, hold down the trip reset button and with your other hand turn the car to on. the display will flash to a series of either 0's or dashes, they will then countdown to nothing. When the display goes blank the reminder is reset. Since it is reset now do not rely on it for a monitor since it will come on 5k after being reset.
