I have an Oldsmobile alero 99 and the security light is constantly on however the car starts leading me to believe the security feature is not working. How can I fix the problem?
I wouldn't fix it if i was you.....I have a 2000 alero, and the security system (passlock) keeps it from starting often, and it seems to be a big problem with them. So if your security system isn't working but the car is running fine I wouldn't mess with it..

You really cant make the light shut off. I've had my security light come on a number of times. It is usually caused from the car not rolling over or starting up 'properly' and it could be from the ignition or the key itself. I usually wait about 10 minutes or so for the light to go off. Car starts right up.

If you're talking about on 01 Alero that's easy. Put the key in and turn it to the on position leave it for 10 minutes and then take the key out leave it for about 5 seconds and then try starting it. Note: make sure the security light has quit flashing on the dashboard. My alero has done this several times, and I've had friends try it in grand am's and this works too. it has something to do with resetting the system. Hope this helps you out.
