As long as you do not have password protection on, there is a little slide tab at the non USB end of the device that has a tiny lock/unlock symbol. Slide that with a paper clip to the unlocked to turn off write protection.
Write protect on a memory-device means that the files can only be viewed, they cannot be edited or altered. I would not trust it, however, as a method of protection.
The write protection on the USB memory card readers is both a hardware and software protection.
How to remove media write-protection from card reader
Most of the USB devices provide the write protection by means of a switch located over the device. It could also be that it is Encrypted right click the file and click on properties then go to where it says attributes click on advanced and make sure a box is not checked that say "Encrypt content to secure data".
Removing write protection from a memory card is simple. Just insert it into the USB drive, and then double click on the flash drive icon when it pops up in the tray. Next, go to properties, and then click the checked box beside 'write protection.' That will remove the write protection from the drive.
