I have done the same thing. Have you received an answer yet? I was trying to get the system to allow me to change the screen size to no avail and shut the thing off. I can't fix it if i can't see it. Is there a short cut that anyone knows of? Thanks.....
Right click on the desktop. Select properties. Click the settings tab. Adjust the resolution setting. This works for most Windows OS.
You go to the Nintendo DS settings and you pick the screen icon.

To change the screen resolution Windows 7 and older, right click on the desktop and select display to open the display properties. In here you will find the screen resolution settings. In Windows 8 and 8.1, right click on the traditional desktop and select screen resolution and follow the prompts.
It depends on which operating system you use. Windows is probably the most common and the system and monitor settings, sound, screen savers, etc. can generally be changed by going to your 'Control Panel'. Click on the icon that pertains to the setting you would like to change to bring up the possible options.
When display settings are making the screen unreadable.
