If your fingers aren't strong enough, try gripping the two interlocking "buckles" with pliers. To avoid fumbling with them in the future, remove the "buckles" from the straps and run a thin zip tie through the strap holes, then just pull the zip tie tight. You will have to cut & replace the zip tie whenever you remove the battery.
