you take whatever die you want to use. Place a piece of paper against the black rubber side of it. Place the die and paper, paper side down on the white plastic plate. Slide the plate under the sizzix and push down on the handle firmly. Lift the handle, slide the plate out and lift up the die. Your paper should be cut in the shape of the die you selected.

A sizzix is a manual machine. It accepts images about 5 or 6 inches wide. As for paper waste you can be fairly conservative. One thing is for sure that you have to work in the area you are given you can't move the object to a corner of the paper or change the object in way shape or form.To get all the layers of the object yes you need to cut several pieces using the different die cut plates. There is some waste there just because you can't move the blade. If you have a image with several cuts or you are cutting letters it can be a long process of placing the paper setting the die and manually moving the letter.Once you have the image for the sizzix you have the image no resizing or modifying with the manual machine. A sizzix does serve dual purpose because you can use it for die cutting or embossing. Yes I have had this problem and my Big shot costing me $99.00 when they first came has now got the handle broken off and I happen to be a Stampin' Up Demonstrator that hasn't got the money to replace the Machine at this time. Sign Sad Demo. AT larsendj@charter.net Contact Sizzix.com, they replaced my crankshaft for me, without any questions or even asking for proof of purchase. It took me one email via the uk website and I got a phone call to confirm my address.
