Use the gear that puts your vehicle within its torque range for best pulling power to overtake the hill, but below red line. Don't over rev the engine, there's no power advantage there. Read your owners manual or call the dealer.

Why would low gear not work but high gear will on 13 double over?

A double over bicycle will have two gears for the chain and it allows for easier pedaling up and down hills. When you are in a low gear, you will find that having the chain on the smaller gear will work better than having it on the large gear, which should be reserved for the high gear.

Why does my Volkswagen Cabrio lose power on hills?

When does an automatic transmission know when to change gears?

Gear changes are determined after how fast the engine is turning. For each gear there are set limits for which engine revs that are allowed. if the revs go high, the transmission changes up a gear, if the gears go low it drops down a gear.

What happens if you drive in the wrong gear on a automatic car?

The transmission will shift to the appropriate gear, if it's functioning properly. Otherwise, you'll either run really high RPMs, or you'll bog down.

What would cause low gear not work on 13 double over?

On a 13-speed double over, if your low gear will not work, particularly when climbing hills, there is likely a problem with your transmission or shifter. Many times the problem is seen where low gear will not work and high gear will, indicating a problem with the mechanism.

What sensor on a automatic transmission would make it slip?

What is the purpose of Low gear on a car?

With an automatic transmission, there are four or five gears, each gear bigger than the last. The bigger the gear the higher the speed. But once in a while, you need power, or "torque", to tow heavy items or carry great weights up steep hills, for example. Since your automatic transmission Is not a mind reader, it switches gears from low to high regardless of what you are towing. So using "low gear" forces the transmission to stay in the low gear even at speeds where it wants to go higher. This gives you less speed but more torque (power), so you will be able to make it up the hill without burning out your transmission. So only use low gear when towing or carrying great extra weight and do not drive fast, read your manual for low gear speed limits so you don't blow your transmission.

Which is the correct drive gear for city and highway driving on a 1990 Honda Accord EX?

whaat? well if its automatic, then just put it in d or d4 and it will be automatic. Since it is an old car you don't want to have the engine go at high rpm's usually above 3500. So on the highway keep it at the lowest gear, 5th for a stick. and shift the gear when you hit 3000 rpm's.
