this is most likely caused by a bad brake booster. hook up a vaccum pump to booster and see if it holds vaccum, if it does, its ok, if it doesnt, its bad. booster is located between firewall and brake fluid resevoir, you will see a large diameter vaccum hose connected to it, this is where to test it at.
If you have a power brake booster then there will be a vaccum line that runs to the brake booster on the firewall from the carburator. Check the booster for holes and broken fittings or buy a new booster. if no brake booster then brakes shouldn't affect vaccum
BAD power brake booster are a vaccum leak at the booster.
The brake booster is what gives you power brakes. In the engine compartment in front of the steering wheel is a round black flat ball looking thing. That's the brake booster with the brake master cylinder attached in front of it. The brake booster uses VACCUM from the engine to multiply the force that your foot applies to the master cylinder. Used with power brake applications
It mounts between the Master Cylinder and the Firewall. Mount the booster to the firewall and then mount the master cylinder to the booster. You then need to find a vaccum connection for the booster. You might want to find another Mustang of this era and see how and where the vaccum is connected.
You either have a bad vaccum line to brake booster or the brake booster itself is bad
I would say a power brake booster or a brake booster would be the same.
Could possibly be a leak in your brake booster. This happend on my 96' GMC 4x4. Hit the breaks it would hesitate to the point of killing the engine. ( this is caused because the motor has little to no vaccum with a leak in brake booster) vehicle will also be consuming more fuel.
In park position Apply a soft pression on the brake pedal, Start the engine, if you feel a depression on the pedal, the brake booster is Ok. Otherwise be sure the vaccum line is OK. Good luck
Begin by removing the brake lines from your 1995 GMC Jimmy brake booster. Remove the brake booster retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new brake booster.
2006 Toyota brake booster
test the booster with engine turned off, pump brake pedal until pedal goes hard then hold foot on brake pedal and start engine. if booster is working, the pedal will go soft as it should for mormal use. if booster is not working ,the pedal will stay hard
