You will either need to run jailbreak software which will push it back out after the change, or connect it to iTunes, which will try to do a restore from the last backup.
Well, if you tried holding the home screen button for 10 seconds and the DFU mode did not come up then, you can see if it lets you restore it on iTunes.
You wake it up:)
put ipod into dfu mode and plug it into a computer that has synced with a ipod/iphone with the desired software. Then when it asks to restore from back up go into your ipods files in my computer and drag the software onto itunes then it will do the rest p.s. to put into dfu mode hold power and home button at the same time until ipod turns off then let go of power button but hold home button for 20 more seconds then its in dfu mode
Press the power button on your PC to wake it up

No, you can just put it to sleep. It can go for weeks on standby, as long as you don't have it wake up for a ton of alerts.
1- Change the USB port the phone is plugged in to. Do not plug the phone back in yet. 2- Reboot the computer then plug the phone in and immediately restart the phone in DFU WHILE CONNECTED to the computer. Open up iTunes. 3- Hit restore DFU can be set on mac by pressing and holding both the home button (Square button) and the Sleep/wake button for 10 sec. Then release ONLY thee sleep/wake button. Keep holding it until iTunes notifies you that you are in restoration mode What will happen, is that your phone will be updated and iTunes will download the next update. Your screen should be black, meaning that it is in DFU mode. After the update finishes the downloading, it will start to extract the software. The downloading time takes a while, since it needs to verify restoration, etc. etc. The apple logo should be visible with a progress bar when downloading. It will take a long time. When it is done, iTunes may ask you if you want to download your backup back into the phone or just use it as a "new" phone. It is advised to press on the "backup", since you get all your contacts, mail, messages, etc. back.
Plugging something in (or removing something) is seen as a sufficient action to wake up the computer, since you may be about to do something with it.
It seems like you cannot wake up the phone when the phone is on sleep mode.
Try entering DFU mode/recovery mode. For ipod touch and iphone only. Take iphone as ipod, it's the same procedure.Step OneOpen iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac.Step TwoPress and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.Step ThreeAfter exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. The iPhone screen will remain black like this:NOTE***: It may take a few attempts to get your iPhone into DFU mode. Generally, I hold down both buttons then release the Home button just before I think the Apple logo would appear. If you are still holding both buttons down and you see the Apple logo you are holding them down for too long!So if u did that properly, you get it and restore the ipod. Then it should work. If not contact apple.
