You will have to buy a harness from the Dodge dealer that will let the trailer lights work without messing with the computer that runs the taillights on the truck. The kit will have the harness and instructions. If you hard wire the trailer into the truck taillights the "lamp out" light will come on on the dash and the turnsignals will flash fast.
It isn't there, Dodge didn't wire the Dakota with one. You will have to wire the brake controller your self.
you get a 4 pin harness from the dealership and it plugs right in by the fuse block.
if its a DVD player they want it hooked up to the e-brake. so this is how i got around it take the pink wire on the harness (the brake wire) then twist it together with the black ground in the harness. that makes it so you can drive and watch movies at the same time.
The remote amp turn on a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 is the wire that taps on the harness to supply the 12v.
Ground the green wire on the harness.
Anywhere you see more than two wires twisted together, you have a wire harness. There are many on a 1999 Dakota.

in a reference manual at your local library
Unfortunately you would need the wire harness. So either get a new harness or a new radio.
The Chevy dealer can sell you a wire harness that plugs in to your fuse box area that has all the wires necessary to attach the brake controler.
It's mounted on the brake pedal, near the top, and there is a wire harness attached to it. steve phx az
