Alaska deals with snow quite well, thank you. Mainly by leaving it alone. If it is in the way (blocking a door, on the steps) it gets shoveled off. Major roads get plowed, side roads- it gets packed down and stays there. For most of the winter it is too cold for snow to melt, even with salt added to it. You learn to drive on snow, and sometimes use snow mobiles, skis or snowshoes.
