email is a type of communication form. You get email from the computer and type in what you want to say to someone you are emailing to.
Emails are sent by copying your message, then sending it to the specified address.

Mail Lists?Mailing list address specifies a special mailbox, called a list manager. List Manager sends copies of message to each address on the list sender does not need to know the list of recipients (like we have Google mail groups)

When you composed the email, it connect to the internet email service provider.you sent the email using protocol SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) to the server. The server is located in the internet. This email cross over to the recipient's email server.

The recipient's computer connect to their server. This time using protocol called POP3 then retrive the email. When the recipient reply, using SMTP and compose the email to their server.It will transfer cross over the email server of you.

Then your computer will connet to the server using POP3 and retrive the email.
