Hitler, as a dictator, had no need to convince Germans of the need to go to war with Poland. The German people were not outwardly in favor of war with Poland, although Hitler created the diplomatic crisis that lead to the German invasion.

Hitler also ordered a fake Polish attack on the German radio station at Gleiwitz on the night of August 31st. It was designed to make Germans believe that Poland started the war. However, few Germans heard of the Gleiwitz incident before the German invasion. Bottom-line, Hitler ordered the attack on Poland long before most Germans were aware of any pending crisis, and further Germans were not urging the invasion beforehand.

What two things from Poland did Hitler want?

He wanted living space (lLebensraum) for the German people, to use Poland resources (things like wheat) and at the time Poland had a large population of Jewish people living there, about 3.3 million. His final solution was to rid the world of Jews, which is why the majority of death camps were in Poland. After the war, around 300,000 Jews were left in Poland.

Hitler didn't have slaves, but the government of Germany did enslave people to force them to work in factories and mines. Hitler had the idea of using the entire country of Poland as slaves working for the German cause. I'm not sure if this is exactly what happened, but supposedly German troops attacked a radio station in an ethnicly German part of Poland.
