Thaddeus Stevens was a republican from Penn's. He supported Abe during the Civil War. He proposed the impeachment of Andrew Johnson. He also helped with insurance behind paper money. He was born on April 4th 1792 and died on August 11th 1868
Thaddeus Stevens represented Pennsylvania in the United States House of Representatives, first as a Whig (from 1849 until 1853) and later as a Republican (from 1859 until 1868). He's sometimes confused with Senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts, another Radical Republican.
