In an effort to be accepted by the hunters, Ralph throws a spear and hits the boar. Unfortunately, the spear doesn't stay in the animal and it runs away. Therefore, Ralph is unable to gain acceptance from the hunters.
Ralph feels a mixture of excitement and Horror at hitting the boar with the spear. He is exhilarated by his display of skill, but he also realizes the violent and primal nature of his actions.
Ralph feels exhilarated and powerful as he successfully hits the boar, asserting his control and superiority over the hunting expedition.

Ralph hates being on the island, and proritizes rescue to his best ability. However, Jack and his followers make it extremely hard for Ralph to greater their chances at being rescued, by neglecting their responsibilities.
