Just to dim lights, it could be just a simpler variable resistor or rheostat. This just lowers the voltage and dims the lights. Makes the bulbs last longer, but way reduces their effientcy (sp?) This doesn't work with AC motors though, lowering their voltage will burn 'em up. What you need for these is a Variac. It keeps the voltage constant, but limits the current. This type of circuit is called RC (resistor-capacitor) and uses a variable coil to alter the speed. Like on a ceiling fan or Honda generator that uses a feedback loop dependant upon load. Hope that helps.
AnswerIf the lights work on the flash to pass but do not work otherwise either the switch is bad or the dimmer switch is bad. I just am working on a 1995 Ranger and found the dimmer switch to be bad. I checked the headlight switch and that was good so I found the dimmer switch to be the problem. I jumped the wires after unplugging the dimmer switch and lights come on. Replace the headlight dimmer switch and good to go! Hope this helps.
It was not designed to be used with a dimmer switch. You must have a halogen designed for use with a dimmer or it will not work.
Most dimmer switches will work with turning it to the left will make it darker and to the right will make it brighter. If you want it on or off you just push in the switch.
You cannot use most fluorescent lights with a dimmer. Just about any incandescent bulb WILL work with a dimmer. Occasionally, when a halogen bulb burns out, it will destroy a dimmer switch but halogen bulbs are considered incandescent and other than that little problem they work well with a dimmer.
Yes it can.
Bulbs? Fuses? Relay? Dimmer switch? Headlight switch?
if it doesn't work, consider it detected
Dimmer switches go bad, more often than regular switches.
Yes, it could.
Yes, if they replace the switch at the wall.
Bad dash light, or dimmer fuse. Or a bad dimmer switch itself
The dimmer switch is adjustable. Take bolts out that support steering collum. Loosen screws that hold switch and slide it whichever way it needs to go to work.
