Child labor laws prevent employers hiring anyone under 16 for a 'real job'. However, it is possible for a 13 year old to obtain a job. Some possibilities are as follows:

  • Babysit
  • Yard-work
  • Car Wash
  • Paper Route
  • Set up a lemonade stand
  • Sell homemade items
  • Walk dogs
  • Homework helper
  • Mow lawns
  • Shovel snow
  • Chores
  • In family businesses and farms, kids are allowed to work. Some states allow 12 year olds to carry papers or shine shoes. Most places require you to be at least 14 to have a job. And the types of jobs and hours are restricted. You will have to check the laws for your state.
  • I am thirteen, and while in Hot Topic, I asked the manager how old you have to be to work there, and she told me 13. I was going to work there, but there isn't one close enough to home. If that is the kind of thing you like, then I would recommend it because I don't think they pay that bad. But because of child labor laws, you would only be able to work certain hours a week.
  • You can make charm bracelets and then sell them at the local Arts and Crafts fair. but make sure its not elegal or can hurt you.
  • At a local diner, they will pay you $6.50 an hour, but you can only work 20 hours a week.
  • In an equestrian center looking after horses.
  • Working at the after school club at the primary school in my village. It depends really, as in some places, other than England, may have other jobs. If you are looking for money, you could always clean cars.
  • Some local Tim Hortons will accept responsible 13 year olds, but only if you are lucky.
  • Bagging at the grocery store.

In the UK, you have to be 14 to get a job empliyed by someone else. You cannot babysit until you are 14 aswell. However, you could ask your parents for money in return for helping arouind the house or you could wash cars in your road. If you have a good neigbour who has a dog, they may allow you to walk it.
For certain, a lot of 13 to 14 year olds would love to get a job right now but it is hard and often the laws prevent it. If you know the right person, however, it may be possible to get a job and get paid - all without being related to that person.
