Best Answer

A Shockley diode uses a metal-semiconductor junction instead of a p-n semiconductor-semiconductor junction. This results in a device with a much lower forward bias voltage drop and much faster switching times.

What is the difference between a Shockley diode and a Shottky diode?

A Shockley diode is a primitive diode identical to a thyristor with it's gate left disconnected. A Schottky diode is similar to a normal avalanche diode except that it's forward voltage is quite low, and it's switching speed is very high.

What diode equation?

It is an equation that describes the I-V characteristic of a diode. In other words, how the current depends on the voltage. The Shockley diode equation uses an exponential expression. See the Wikipedia article on "Shockley diode equation" for more details. However, for many practical purposes, it's accurate enough to think of a diode as being "open" in the "forward" direction (no voltage drop), and having a voltage drop of about 0.7 V (in the case of diodes made from silicon) in the "reverse" direction.

The only way to stop a 4 layers diode that is conducting is by?

To cause a Shockley diode to stop conducting, reduce the current going through it to a level below its low-current dropoutthreshold.

What is a Shockley diode?

An ordinary semiconductor diode uses a P-N junction, but when reverse biased it takes a period of time to remove the current carriers from that junction to create the depletion region that blocks reverse conduction. A Shockley diode instead uses a P semiconductor-metal junction, which removes the current carriers much faster from the semiconductor allowing the device to switch much faster. It also has a much lower forward bias voltage than an ordinary diode. In many ways it is similar to the previous point contact diodes (a piece of semiconductor like galena or germanium with a metal "cat's whisker" point contact) in operation, but is more reliable and easier to mass produce.
