It's just a pony acetylene-type torch, to make creme brulees and stuff. Just turn the gas on low and light the torch, and adjust the flame as needed.

Not likely, but since they mount similarly and SHOULD have the hose locations at the same place you may be able to make it work. A new one is probably less expensive than you think, also if you are any good with a braising torch you may be able to repair the old one.
