A car starter is an electric motor that is used to turn the engine over in order to get it started. The motor is powered by the car battery (Typically 12 Volts) The motor turns the engine by engaging the flywheel (cog) by one or other of two means. 1/ The turning action of the motor pushes a gear into the flywheel. 2/ A solenoid attached to the motor pushes in the connecting gear. After the engine starts the gear disengages.
Short answer: the solenoid passes current to starter. The starter has a bendix (sort of a metal pole that shoots up while spinning. At the end of the bendix is a metal (or hard plastic depending on the application) gear. The bendix shoots out with that gear on the end of it and the gear grabs the flywheel of the engine and spins it over, which starts the engine.
I used 20amps....works fine. I don't' know I'm a wannabes....
Typically, just about everything except the starter. But then the starter solenoid works off the keyswitch, so the starter won't engage if the fusable like is bad.
where is the starter located on the car?
If it takes a minute for your car to start while holding the key down it sounds like your starter has gone bad. Try replacing the starter.
Probably not the starter.
The obvious answer is the one the Jeep sells at its dealerships parts department.
I would check the weiring harness from the car to the starter
When opened by the starter switch, it sends electricity from the battery to the starter motor to start the car.
Usually that happens with an alternator not the starter. Once the vehicle is started, you can actually remove the starter and it will still operate, just dont turn it off. What car is this for and give me more details...
