If you are married to a woman, first consult your wife. And if your child(dren) are young tell when they are young so they have time adapting to it.
If you are married to a man, they will start to ask questions when they are about 8 or 9. Just answer anything they ask.
For teens and adults, it's a bit more comple as they think more. You can either hide from them for the rest of your life or talk to them and give them time to adjust to the bomb shell. That is all you can do and i think nothing else.
