A narwhal eats in the shallower waters of the uppermost, sunlit zone of the ocean in summer. It eats in the deeper waters of the middle, dimly lit zone of the ocean in winter. Much still is unknown about narwhal activities. But scientists suggest that feeding is less often from the more available food supply of summer. They also indicate that a narwhal may dive more than 15 times a day for food in winter.

Did hunters want narwhal tusks or eggs?

Answer #1 by Mediatech Narwhal are mammals, so they do not lay eggs. Answer #2 by Ginezumi Hunters want narwhal body parts if they seek food, and narwhal tusks if they seek profit. The narwhal has a long, curved tusk that projects frontwards out through the mouth. Inuit hunters generally are interested in narwhal body parts as sources of food. Non-Inuit hunters generally aren't interested in narwhal body parts as food. They seek the narwhal's tusk.

How much food does a narwhal eat?

Daily, a narwhal may eat as much as an estimated 30 kilograms/66 pounds worth of fish. But that's only a guess, and one that represents an average of extremes. In fact, narwhal feeding habits involve yo-yo feeding and dieting between two main yearly habitats. Specifically, the narwhal migrates between, and feeds differently at, high Arctic winter feeding grounds and low Arctic summer grounds.
