how to remove engine in mercruser
There are 3 types of engines. Inboard engines, outboard engines and sterndrive engines. Sterndrive engines are located in the hull near the stern, but have a small leg protruding through the stern for the propellor. There will be a rubber gasket sealing the outboard leg from the inside of the boat.
i have a 1978 browning mustang 1 that i am restoring.it has a mercruiser io 140hp engine and mercruiser 140 sterndrive.
Hard to tell without a picture. Try ValueJockey.com it is free. you can post a picture there and get pricing help. Good Luck!!!
To find the year model of a Mercury outboard, you need to know two things, the serial number, and the horsepower rating. you need to get a deep socket to get to the small bolt closest to the engine, there are only two bolts that hold on the starters on a 3.0, one is long one is short.
It is a fairly simple disassembly. I advise getting a book. http://www.marineengine.com/manuals/seloc/volvo_penta.html The above link is a source. If you are asking for the actual how-to, it is multi-stepped and requires a lot of input. Buy a manual! Y-THINK-Y
Generally no. You do not want to run an impeller dry, so normally you will apply a light coat of grease to the impeller when you install it. On an outboard engine the impeller is on top of the gearcase and below the surface of the water so it will get water as soon as you start to crank the engine. On a sterndrive or inboard engine the pump can be located on the engine, but it is often mounted low (near the water level). If you crank the engine without starting it the impeller will "prime" itself.
This depends on the boat itself, length alone is not the determining factor. Every boat should have a specification plate on the right side of the transom (the rear board of the boat that the motor or sterndrive is attached to). This plate gives the model and serial number of the boat. It also included the maximum number of people or maximum weight of people and gear. It is important to respect the max weight for the stability of the boat at all speeds.
I am removing mine right now, I`m sick and tired of battling this high maintnance piece of crap. If its not a lack of power, its an issue with the outdrive, corrosion, overheating manifolds on and on and on. I run a sportfishing company and will NEVER go I/O again! Anyway...............so far it seems pretty straightforward, removing all cables, wiring, etc. there seams to only be four engine mount bolts on this one (4cyl 3.0lx) there is a chain loop on the back end of the manifold. I will let you know if there is anything unusual.
They got their education by secretly learning it if their master didn't allowed because it was illegal. Sometimes, their masters tought the slave even though it was against the law. By secretly learning it, they could learn it off another slave or steal a book and educate themselves.
