By definition a stroke affects the brain by blocking small arteries that carry blood to the cells and deliver nutrients and oxygen. These become blocked and the cells that the artery is leading to, die. A similar thing happens when arteries to the heart muscle cells that are blocked causing a heart attack.

The flu can make breathing very difficult. The circulatory system can see increased blood pressure which in turn makes the heart beat rapidly. In the event that this should happen it can cause a vamp in inflammation. If one with a weak or damaged heart catches the flu and it is not treated properly it can even cause blood clots in the circulatory system and eventually lead to death.
