Loose tea is placed into the infuser, which is sitting in the mug. Hot water is poured over the tea and allowed to steep the recommended time (usually 3-5 minutes for black tea). Remove infuser before drinking as tea will continue to brew as long as it sits in the mug and may get bitter.

A tea infuser in a glass teapot works by taking the loose tea leaves placed inside the infuser and filtering them out for use as tea. One can either add milk afterward or have the tea plain.
