First of all, I'm going to be honest with you: how is she your friend if you're unpopular and she isn't? Usually these two groups don't mix. Or are you more like a "secret" friend and none of her friends really know you two hang out?
Anyway, if you two are truly friends and she liked you back in the 4th grade, I'm guessing that means she hasn't said anything about liking you now. If she has only mentioned that she liked you back then but not now, I wouldn't say anything. I would find a girl on my level and just remain friends.
I was popular back in high school and I never dated unpopular guys. Not because I was a snob, but because really, what do you have in common? She's probably at the mall with her friends on Friday nights and you're probably at home watching Star Trek.
I would just let this one go and find another girl.
