Through cancer cell mutation; the cancer builds its own cells in your body. *** This is a tough question. There are many causes to why one would develop cancer. You could be pre-disposed to it, meaning it's in your family's history and you may carry a gene that would make you more likely to get it than other people. Some say it's from pollutants in the air. Some say all of our new electronics like microwaves and cell phones cause cancer. Some say we can get it from the laundry detergent we use and other household chemicals. Then there's smoking. I've known people to get cancer who were in top shape, never smoke and never drank. I've known people to smoke their entire lives and never even get a major cold. Until more studies are done, we may never know. I pray that we do, so that a cure can be found.

Cancer is most simply defined as a disease of the DNA. For this to make the most sense, let's step back and look at what a normal cell is "supposed" to do: Let's put it into an analogy - you and I are the same (for the most part). We're born, we grow, and we die. If we were cells (instead of collections of billions of cells (people)), we'd follow the same path. With cells it's not much different than with whole people: Cells are "born" from the division of two parent cells (even if you only have one "parent", two people were responsible for bringing you into this world). At this point, the cell is immature; it doesn't have the features that distinguish the "adult" (for example, kids don't have facial hair, they're shorter, etc). Cells aren't much different: It takes time for a newly born cell to grow into what it should be. As time passes, the cell gets an "education" (in reality, the genome, or genetic code, tells the cell what to do, much like your parents tell YOU what you should be doing...the difference is, a normal cell will actually LISTEN!) Once the cell reaches maturity, it has a "job" (skin cell, for example), it has neighbors (other skin cells, hopefully, more on this later) and it has a life (like you and I, this skin cell will too eventually die (much sooner (hopefully!)) than either of us have on the Earth). This process is called Differentiation, and it occurs throuhgout your body. Some cells rapidly divide, mature and die (such as your skin), while others never (well, ALMOST never) divide (such as nerves). All of this busy-work of dividing, maturing and dying is controlled by your DNA. -FACT- Every one of your cells, from your eyeball to your toe has the same exact DNA. The difference lies in how that DNA is USED. (that's why you don't have eyes growing from your toes, or toes from your eyes). If left to survive without outside influences, this process is really good at keeping something alive (humans have expanded their life expectancy by almost 100% in the last 500 years). Modern life brings new difficulties, however. Your DNA is responsible for storing all the information of who you are. It's pretty cool, but it's not 100% secure. The environment can impact your DNA; things like too much Sun, chemical exposure, and radiation can knock your DNA out of whack. Other things such as genetic markers, family history and just plain-ole "bad luck" can cause your DNA to change. When these changes occur, the cells try very hard to correct the damage. Sometimes, though, the cell gets overworked. When this occurs, the dammage from one cell carries on when it's time for that cell to divide, and it becomes the "problem" of two cells now. Each of these cells has a problem (cancer, in this case), and they then split to form new cells (hey, it's what the body does!), and we now have 4 cancer cells...and so on. Many people do very bad things to their bodies for years without having a problem (smokers, drinkers, etc.). Other people do nothing at all, and end up with cancer. Because it is a disease of the DNA, however, there is not yet a cure for all cancers. Some are more treatable than others. Sometimes the treatments seem like a cure. However, the amazing thing about the body is that even though many people we know and love have died from cancer, many others beat it and live for a long, long time.

The formation of tumors be traced back to a single cell. Mutations develop on chromosomal DNA.

The risk of developing cancer increases with age. Scientists believe that multiple mutations must accumulate in one cell over its lifetime for the cell to cause invasive cancer. The incidence of cancer in young people is very low, while quite high in older people. Cells constantly accumulate mutations because of carcinogen exposure, such as chemical carsonogens in our diets and surundings, ultraviolet light, or just random chance. Combination of mutations may develop in the same cell leading to the start of cancer.

Cancer is one of the most complex diseases with many possible causes. In cancer cells have grown uncontrollably and not to die. Normal cells in the body follow an orderly path of growth, division, and death. Programmed cell death is called apoptosis, and when this process breaks down, cancer begins to form.

Here are the common causes of cancer:

Genetics:

Some kind of cancer runs in families, most of the cancers are not clearly linked to the genes we inherit from our parents.

Tobacco:

Cigarette, cigar, and smokeless tobacco use leads to cancer.

Diet and Physical Activity:

Excess body weight, high intake of alcohol may affect the risk of cancer.

Sun and UV Exposure:

Sun exposure, radiation exposure (UV) increases the risk of cancer.

Other causes of cancer are environmental, pollution, and even in some medical tests and treatments.

Cancer cells forms when a cell is damaged by mutation. Then it starts to divide abnormally and functions abnormally. When there is a large group of cells, then it is called a tumor. When a tumor gets to large some of the cancer cells can enter your bloodstream, traveling to other places of your body. You can destroy cancer cells with surgery if cancer cells haven't traveled to other parts of your body. If cancer cells traveled to other parts, then you can get rid of cancer through the use of drugs or radiology. To prevent cancer, you can have a healthy diet or avoid tobacco.

Doctors feel that it is the lack of a good diet and not eating diets high in fibers such as leafy greens, wheat, nuts, etc., and lack of water in the body. However, it also can be genetic. The whole key to cancer is 'why do some people get it and others don't.' Scientists are working hard to find the key to this problem. Everyone has cancer cells in their body that lie dormant and scientists want to find out why some people's cancer cells are activated.

When cells multiply too quickly an abnormal cell forms. then the cell replicates until a tumor forms. then the tumor enters the bloodstream and creates cancer.

During breast development, cells may mutate in a way that they rapidly produce cancer cells. This doesn't mean that your boobs will get really big. It means that you have a tumour.
