if your timing belt breaks and if its an interference motor, which a lot of belt driven engines are, your basically screwed, you valves would be bent and you could have a cracked piston. if try to crank the motor over with a timing belt broken your basically hear loud metal noises and the motor not going to have any compression so basically if just keep cranking it with the starter your just going to hear a loud winning noise because the crankshaft is the only part that is moving now that the belt is broken from the camshafts.
If you can drive the car, the timing belt isn't broken. An engine will not start or run with a broken cam belt.
If you think your Timing Belt broke DO NOT try to crank your car, if you continue to crank you car with a severed timing belt you will cause more damage. The only way you can tell for sure if the timing belt broke is to remove the upper timing cover and inspect the belt. If you see a naked cam sprocket your timing belt has broken and you will most likely need a top end engine rebuild.
if the timing belt is broke, then the car wont start. and u probably bent a bunch of valves.
A 2000 Mazda Protege with 1.8 DOHC engine appears to be a "free-running" engine, meaning there is no valve/piston interference in case the timing belt broke. There is enough clearance between the valve and piston, even if the cam stops (i.e. the timing belt breaks) with the valve fully open. Therefore, the car will not be damaged if the timing belt broke.
your car will not move because your camshaft will not be rotating, therefore you will not have compression in your cylinders.
timing belts are fairly easy to fix ,you need the # on the belt to get the right replacement ,go to an auto body shop, they know how to do this job.
depends on if the timing belt broke or not.... if the car was running and it broke there is a good chance you will need to do heads valves etc. on the dodge neons there is a zero tollerance clearance. About 1500.00 to 2000.00 if it broke while running About 150.00 to 200.00 if you replace it before it breaks
Yes every car has a timing belt or chain. The 2003 Cavalier has a timing belt
well if u were drivein the car when it broke the motor is junk they are o tolerence engines
if the timing belt has broke on a vauxhall corsa 1.4 will the pistons hit the valves
You can find out if a car has a timing belt or chain at www.timingchainorbelt.com web site.
a timing chain last longer than a timing belt... a lot longer.
