I've also read that dish soap can be used in place of garden soap to prevent pests from eating the plants (spraying a film on the leaves). As long as you keep watering your plants and don't saturate the soil in soap, I can't see a problem with using old dishwater in the garden (as long as you don't introduce animal fats or mold producing ingredients).
